Women-led creative agency, FourTwo Creative, marks its official launch with ‘Call Your Mother,’ a new video honoring the African women who have shaped them. ‘Call Your Mother’ delves into topics of love, freedom, style, identity and more, through intimate phone conversations between a group of Black millennial women and their mothers.

“As we enter new stages of our lives, we wanted to explore how our mothers’ lessons and experiences have directly influenced who we are today,” says FourTwo Creative. “We wanted to move beyond casual conversation with our mothers and get to understand them on a more meaningful level not only as our mothers, but as full and complete human beings.”

Written, produced, directed and starring members and friends of FourTwo, the video offers a beyond-the-surface look into diverse mother-daughter relationships.

“We wanted to explore how our mothers’ lessons and experiences have directly influenced who we are today”

Mothers were asked personalized questions that warranted honest answers and reflection. The conversations reveal the strong intergenerational bonds that shape each woman’s unique connection with her mother. This is further highlighted through visuals, which feature the group in a cozy home setting as they creatively channel their mother’s words. “We learned that no matter how close we may be to our moms, there’s always something new to learn about them,” says the agency.

‘Call Your Mother’ is being released in celebration of Women’s History Month and was created in an effort to foster collaboration between African women of various backgrounds and generations — the mission at the very heart of FourTwo Creative. “When we set out to make this piece in honor of our mothers for Women’s History Month, we had no idea of the context in which we’d be releasing it,” adds FourTwo. “Now more than ever, we see the need for reminders like these. We hope this film will inspire you to contact and spend some quality time communicating with someone dear to you.”
